twins and their big sister

When I graduated from RIT at the end of May, I received an amazing graduation gift from my parents, a Nikon D5000, with a 18-55mm and 55-200mm lens. Before, I was used to D70, D200 and D300. While they are similar, I still had to adjust to my own camera. Mine and nobody else for once. It takes awhile for me to adjust the settings for different situations. And I'm still working on it. As soon I received the wonderful gift, I was asked if I could photograph the children of one of my dad's clients. I figured it would be a great start for me. Unfortunately I did not get to practice photographing people with my camera. And one thing I regret doing was not taking more pictures in shorter amount of time (click-click-click instead of click and wait for a good moment). While I was not able to get an amazing enough photo of all three girls together, I did get some adorable ones of them separately. I really would love to go back and photograph them again, maybe the next time I visit my hometown. I would love to photograph other children too. Even all the children in the world if that were possible! They are such a delight (maybe because they are not mine to deal with in the first place). In the meantime, I'm focusing on what I can photograph. My list of photography related items that I really would like to buy (such as a 105mm macro lens and speed light) has grown. Too bad it's so expensive. Time to resume job hunting so I can afford these things.

Isn't this little girl freaking adorable or what?! I noticed that every time I giggled at something they did, they would grin or giggle back. There would be a moment or two when they would be more focused on something. This one was ignoring everything but eating her own M&M's, until she looked at me blankly and I giggled at her. This was her reaction. It worked like a charm. :]

I'm not sure how other people feel about this photograph. A couple people told me they were eh-eh about this one because it was blurry. Maybe I love it because I know the story behind it. She had an ice cream treat in her hand, and the dog just really wanted the ice cream. She started dancing, or even taunting, I was not sure at that point, and the dog just kind of moved with her. The blur represents her movements. Oh and the dog did end up getting some of the treat when she decided she didn't want anymore.
